About

Joshua N. Auerbach has over 20 years of legal experience handling complex civil litigation, appellate matters, and consumer protection actions. He has fought for fairness in class actions, public health, and election law, advocating for vulnerable communities and promoting access to justice through impactful enforcement work and courtroom advocacy.

Joshua earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in 1994 and his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1999. He began his legal career with a prestigious clerkship for the Hon. Diana Gribbon Motz on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit from 1999 to 2000.

Joshua served as a special assistant to Maryland’s Attorney General, where he led affirmative litigation and legislative initiatives protecting health care access and financial security for residents. His work included leading civil enforcement actions and defending state laws against constitutional challenges, safeguarding the public interest at every stage.

Joshua also acted as principal counsel to the Maryland Department of Health, advising on regulation, Medicaid, public health enforcement, and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. His guidance helped shape the administration of health programs across the state, especially in critical areas like provider licensure and regulatory compliance.

Joshua has argued over a dozen appellate cases and authored key amicus briefs, including one cited in the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Affordable Care Act. His appellate work spans consumer protection, administrative law, and constitutional questions, often setting precedents that affect statewide policy and governance.

Joshua N. Auerbach continues to make a meaningful impact through litigation, appellate work, and health law, driven by a career-long commitment to justice and public service. He also shares his knowledge as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, where he teaches Civil Procedure and Administrative Law. His contributions support the next generation of legal professionals while maintaining high standards of public advocacy.
