Joseph W. Flees

Joseph W. Flees is a partner at Frank & Juengel Law Group P.C. in Clayton, Missouri. He focuses on federal and state criminal defense and represents people facing allegations involving sex offenses, child pornography, drug violations, murder, violent crimes, white-collar offenses, and other federal charges. Licensed in Missouri and Illinois, Joe is also admitted before federal courts in both states and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.

Joe earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. He then received his Juris Doctor from Washington University School of Law. He also completed the 178th Judge Advocate Officer Basic Course at the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School. His legal education and military training prepared him to analyze serious criminal matters, develop trial strategies, and work within both civilian and military justice systems.

Joe began his legal career in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he served as trial counsel and prosecuted cases including first-degree murder. He later served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and as defense counsel at Fort Leonard Wood. In that role, he represented hundreds of soldiers and obtained eight full acquittals in less than two years. He later prosecuted sex crimes, crimes against children, weapons offenses, domestic assault, drug matters, and felony traffic cases in Christian County.

Joseph W. Flees brings experience from both sides of criminal cases, giving him insight into how prosecutors investigate, prepare, and present charges. His work also included civil litigation, which strengthened his understanding of matters where civil and criminal issues overlap. His honors include National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 recognition in 2015, Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers Rising Stars honors in 2016 and 2017, and National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Lawyers recognition in 2019.
