About
Jonathan O. Owens has built a respected career as a patent and intellectual property attorney, providing comprehensive legal guidance across patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Since 1993, he has successfully prepared and prosecuted numerous patent and trademark applications, drafted infringement and validity opinions, and counseled clients on licensing and confidentiality agreements. His extensive background in legal research and litigation reflects a strong command of intellectual property law and its technical intersections.
Jonathan earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Montana State University in 1989, where he gained valuable insight into the technical foundations of invention and innovation. During his undergraduate studies, he worked on a team that designed an electromechanical system for research in the MSU Biology Department, an effort that earned him an Award in the IEEE Student Design Paper Contest in March 1989. Building on his technical background, he went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1993, where he served as Managing Editor of the Computer & High Technology Law Journal.
Jonathan’s career also includes early experience as a Law Clerk from 1992 to 1993, where he handled patent applications, licensing agreements, and legal opinions related to technology and innovation. Before entering law, he taught digital and analog electronics, helping students master computer repair and circuit design. This teaching experience deepened his practical understanding of technology—an asset that enhances his precision in intellectual property matters.
Jonathan O. Owens is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and multiple U.S. District Courts, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. With a blend of legal acumen and technical expertise, he continues to provide clients with strategic, informed representation across all areas of intellectual property law.
