John F. Booth has decades of experience guiding clients through intellectual property disputes and transactions. His practice includes litigation in both federal and state courts, as well as handling arbitration disputes, mergers and acquisitions, licensing matters, and patent office proceedings. He has also counseled inventors, businesses, and organizations on complex patent transactions and strategic planning.
John earned his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University in 1965 before completing his Juris Doctor at The University of Texas School of Law in 1968. He later advanced his trial practice skills at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, attending the Trial Advocacy Program in Oxford and the Deposition Skills Program in Boulder, Colorado. These academic and professional achievements laid the groundwork for his highly respected legal career.
John is licensed to practice in Texas and the District of Columbia, with admissions before multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His career includes significant experience before the Canadian Patent Office as well. As a Certified Specialist in patent, trademark, and copyright law, he has helped protect intellectual property rights at every stage of development and enforcement.
John has been active in professional associations, including the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Dallas Bar Association, and Dallas Fort-Worth Patent Law Association. He also served as president of the Dallas Young Lawyer Association. Beyond his legal work, he contributed to legal education by founding the Texas High School Mock Trial Competition, furthering opportunities for students to learn courtroom skills and advocacy.
