Joel Justiss

Joel Justiss is a shareholder at Parker Justiss, where he focuses his practice on intellectual property law. He has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patents involving electrical and computer inventions, including telecommunications, HVAC, software applications, and electrical systems. Joel earned his Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in 2000, following his completion of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Tennessee Technological University in 1986. His background as an engineer provides him with a strong technical foundation to effectively assist inventors, entrepreneurs, and businesses in protecting and leveraging their intellectual property. He is admitted to practice law in Texas and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Before launching his legal career, Joel spent 14 years as an engineer at TXU (1986–2000), gaining hands-on experience with complex technical and energy systems. This real-world engineering background gives him a competitive edge in intellectual property law, allowing him to pair deep technical knowledge with strategic, business-focused legal counsel. Joel is also an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), underscoring his continued engagement with the engineering and technology community.
