Joel earned his Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in 2000, following his completion of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Tennessee Technological University in 1986. His background as an engineer provides him with a strong technical foundation to effectively assist inventors, entrepreneurs, and businesses in protecting and leveraging their intellectual property. He is admitted to practice law in Texas and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Before beginning his legal career, Joel worked as an engineer for TXU from 1986 to 2000, where he gained practical insight into complex technical systems. This experience enables him to bring a unique perspective to intellectual property matters, combining technical expertise with strategic legal advice. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), demonstrating his ongoing commitment to the engineering community.
