About
John Coppede is a partner at Coal Creek Law in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He represents businesses and individuals in commercial litigation, business torts, administrative proceedings, employment disputes, civil rights issues, and insurance defense. His practice also includes oilfield accidents and creditors’ rights in bankruptcy matters. He handles cases that require work in courts and before state agencies.
Coppede earned a B.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1977 and a J.D. from the University of Wyoming in 1987. He began his legal career clerking for Judge Alan B. Johnson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming. That judicial experience provided a foundation for his subsequent trial and administrative practice in Wyoming.
Coppede has represented school districts in Title IX and Section 1983 litigation and employers in contested and uncontested workers’ compensation matters. His insurance work includes coverage disputes and first-party and third-party bad faith. He also appears before Wyoming agencies, including the Environmental Quality Council, Public Service Commission, Board of Equalization, and Office of Administrative Hearings, as well as courts in Wyoming and Colorado.
John Coppede has received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. His practice connects commercial, employment, civil rights, insurance, and administrative issues, allowing him to assess disputes across different forums and account for the different demands of each proceeding. His clerkship and substantial experience with courts and agencies inform his approach to representing clients when litigation and regulatory processes overlap.
