About

Jim Archibald is a highly respected construction lawyer and partner at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, where he has practiced for over three decades. From 2009 to 2014, he served as practice group leader of the firm’s Construction Practice Group and was later elected to the firm’s Managing Board, serving from 2014 to 2021. His career reflects both deep legal experience and proven leadership within one of the nation’s top construction law practices.

Mr. Archibald earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif and contributed to the Law Review. He also holds a B.A. from Emory University, where he graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. This academic foundation prepared him for a career dedicated to excellence in advocacy, negotiation, and dispute resolution.

Throughout his career, Mr. Archibald has successfully tried or arbitrated more than 30 complex construction disputes to final verdict or award. His experience covers the full range of construction law issues, including delay and acceleration claims, defective work, wrongful termination, performance testing disputes, joint venture disagreements, and claims arising from major infrastructure and energy projects.

Recently, he has represented contractors and joint ventures in high-stakes disputes involving hospital construction, expressway and highway projects, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and international government contracts—such as matters involving the U.S. Department of State and the NATO headquarters project in Brussels. In addition to his trial and arbitration practice, he is an experienced construction mediator who guides parties through efficient, cost-effective alternative dispute resolution.

Jim Archibald is a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers, where he also serves on the Board of Governors, as well as a Fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America and the American Bar Foundation. Recognized by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, and Super Lawyers, he is also a founding member and past chair of the Alabama State Bar’s Construction Law Section. His reputation for integrity and skill makes him a trusted leader in the field of construction law.
