James A. Davis

James A. Davis is the head of Davis & Davis, Attorneys at Law, P.C., and has practiced law with the firm since 1991. He leads a trial-focused practice handling criminal defense, DUI and DWI matters, family law disputes, and general civil litigation, bringing decades of courtroom experience to high-stakes cases across North Carolina.

James earned his Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Catawba College. His academic background supports a career defined by legal scholarship, trial advocacy, and ongoing contributions to legal education at the state level.

James is a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in State Criminal Law, Federal Criminal Law, and Family Law. His experience includes not guilty verdicts in capital and non-capital murder cases, significant civil jury verdicts, exclusion of expert testimony, and extensive federal and state jury trial work. He has also served as lead counsel in capital cases designated by the Office of the Capital Defender.

In addition to his trial practice, James has held numerous leadership and service roles within the legal profession. He has served on the North Carolina State Bar Disciplinary Hearing Commission, the Board of Continuing Legal Education, and the Criminal Law Specialty Committee. He is also a frequent faculty presenter and guest lecturer for continuing legal education programs statewide.

James has received extensive peer recognition, including repeated selection to North Carolina Super Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America, Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite, and designation as “Lawyer of the Year” in DWI Defense. He was also honored as an “Icon” by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly and received the Professor John Rubin Award for contributions to indigent defense training.
