J. Ashlee Albies is a dedicated civil rights and employee-side employment attorney with nearly two decades of experience. She represents individuals facing discrimination, retaliation, or mistreatment by employers or government entities. Her client-centered approach ensures that individuals are informed, empowered, and supported through critical legal decisions.
Ashlee earned her Juris Doctor from Lewis and Clark Law School in 2005 and her Bachelor of Science from Cook College at Rutgers University in 2000. Since being admitted to the Oregon Bar in 2005, she has also gained admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Throughout her career, Ashlee has worked tirelessly to uphold human rights through strategic litigation and community advocacy. Her civil rights practice includes representing community groups in police accountability cases and providing legal education to incarcerated individuals, as seen in her work on the Life Without Parole Storytelling Project.
Ashlee extends her advocacy through professional leadership, having served as past chair of the Oregon State Bar’s Civil Rights Section and is currently chair-elect of its Labor and Employment Section. She frequently teaches legal seminars on civil liberties, trial practice, and creative legal strategies for public impact.
Ashlee’s work has earned wide recognition. She received the Law for the People Award from the National Lawyers Guild, the Community Spirit Award from Lewis and Clark Law School, and the Arthur Bryant Public Justice Award from the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association. In 2021, she was honored with the NLG’s Ernie Goodman Award for her commitment to justice.
J. Ashlee Albies’ legal service continues beyond the courtroom through mentorship, board service, and volunteer work in correctional education and community theater. With unwavering commitment and deep expertise, she uses the law as a tool for accountability, equity, and transformative justice for individuals and communities alike.
