About
Ian D. McCauley is a director in Bayard’s litigation group and leads the firm’s eDiscovery practice. He focuses on electronic discovery from the anticipation of litigation through its conclusion. He advises litigants appearing in Delaware’s Court of Chancery, Superior Court, District Court, and Bankruptcy Court on preservation, collection, review, and production of electronically stored information. His work emphasizes defensible, efficient discovery decisions and practical management of document-intensive disputes.
Ian earned a B.A. from Cornell University and a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law. His legal training supports a practice that combines litigation procedure, technology, and information management. He applies that foundation to discovery strategy, litigation readiness, information governance, and data privacy issues, helping clients address legal obligations surrounding electronic information while considering cost, scope, defensibility, and the practical demands of complex litigation.
Ian manages large-scale ESI reviews for internal investigations and litigation, negotiates discovery scope with opposing parties, and argues discovery-related motions in Delaware courts. He has served as an eDiscovery liaison in Delaware bankruptcy matters and has developed flexible practices for handling the Electronic Discovery Reference Model. He also speaks and writes on eDiscovery, artificial intelligence, technology law, and document discovery for bar groups, conferences, law schools, and professional organizations.
Ian D. McCauley is admitted in Delaware and Pennsylvania and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Electronic Discovery and Information Management Law and in Delaware Today’s Top Lawyers editions for eDiscovery. He is active in the Delaware State Bar Association’s Technology and the Law Section and the Richard K. Herrmann Technology American Inn of Court.
