Hugh J. Marbury is a respected business litigator and trusted adviser with decades of experience representing companies and entrepreneurs in Delaware and beyond. As Chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Delaware Litigation Practice, Hugh handles complex corporate disputes for clients in industries ranging from finance and tech to sports and pharmaceuticals. His work includes mergers and acquisitions litigation, shareholder demands, corporate control fights, and high-stakes class and derivative lawsuits before the Delaware Court of Chancery.

Hugh earned his B.A. in philosophy, politics, and economics from Pomona College, where he also played varsity baseball. He received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and completed Harvard Business School’s Law Leadership Program. This strong foundation allows him to offer clients strategic advice on business, technology, and intellectual property challenges.

In addition to his corporate work, Hugh is a leader in intellectual property litigation and serves as co-chair of the firm’s national Copyright Practice. He has handled major patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, and business tort cases in federal courts across the country. He has led bet-the-company matters involving technologies from digital encryption to monoclonal antibodies and has won more than $3 billion in arbitration claims combined. His skill in arbitration under Delaware law is unmatched.

Hugh J. Marbury’s experience and thought leadership have earned him honors such as being named an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property and recognition by Best Lawyers in America. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute and a contributing author to ALI’s Restatements. Hugh is admitted in Delaware, Maryland, New York, and D.C., giving clients broad reach for complex disputes.
