Grant E. Helms is a dedicated Indianapolis attorney with a career rooted in civil litigation, constitutional law, and public interest advocacy. Through his practice at Helms Legal, LLC, he provides strategic legal support to individuals confronting issues related to employment discrimination, civil liberties, ADA rights, and government litigation.

Grant earned his Juris Doctor from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. During law school, he received the Blackwell Award for legal writing and the Norman Lefstein Award of Excellence. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science magna cum laude from American University in Washington, D.C., where he studied civic institutions and government operations.

Grant’s legal background spans First, Fourth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendment claims, EEOC and disability rights cases, and constitutional matters impacting the LGBTQ+ community. His litigation experience includes judicial review of agency decisions, prisoner rights cases, and advocacy in both state and federal courts, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Grant is admitted to practice before the Indiana Supreme Court, both U.S. District Courts in Indiana, and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Grant is an active member of the Indianapolis and Indiana State Bar Associations, participating in litigation, labor/employment, and solo/small firm sections.

Grant E. Helms also served as Vice President of Operations and Board Member for IndyPride, Inc., demonstrating his deep investment in community engagement. His client-focused approach combines legal skill with a deep understanding of Indiana’s evolving civic and cultural landscape.
