About

Elena Romerdahl is a partner and the Anchorage Office Managing Partner at Ashurst Perkins Coie. Romerdahl advises clients on energy, oil, gas, and mining matters, including project development and finance. Her practice covers state and federal permitting, environmental and natural resource litigation, enforcement actions, administrative appeals, utility rate matters, regulatory proceedings, tariffs, contaminated sites, commercial agreements, and occupational safety and health issues affecting major projects and resource operations.

Romerdahl earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2010, an M.S.T. from Pace University in 2007, and a B.A. in English and Government from Georgetown University in 2005. She clerked for Judge Timothy M. Burgess of the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska and Justice Craig F. Stowers of the Alaska Supreme Court. These experiences support a practice that combines regulatory analysis, litigation, and Alaska-specific resource development knowledge.

Romerdahl represents clients before the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and Alaska Office of Administrative Hearings, as well as in state and federal courts. Before private practice, she served as an assistant attorney general in the Alaska Department of Law’s Natural Resources Section and worked on negotiations for the Alaska North Slope liquefied natural gas project, permitting, lease administration, royalties, taxation, and restoration issues.

Elena Romerdahl is recognized for work in natural resources and environmental law and has held leadership roles in professional and community organizations. Romerdahl’s experience advising state agencies, policymakers, and private clients gives her a detailed understanding of how Alaska resource projects move through regulatory, commercial, and litigation processes. Her practice helps clients coordinate permitting, compliance, financing, dispute strategy, and agency engagement while managing the legal risks associated with energy, mining, and other natural resource development.
