About
K. Amanda Saunders is a partner with Sonosky, Chambers, Sachse, Miller & Monkman, LLP in Alaska. She works across the firm’s Indian law practice with a focus on trial and appellate litigation and general counsel matters. She represents Tribes and Tribal organizations on tribal sovereignty, self-determination and self-governance, environmental law, and tribal economic development, including matters before federal, tribal, and state courts and government agencies.
Saunders earned a J.D. from the University of California, Davis, School of Law in 2018 and a B.A. in environmental studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010. In law school, she served as Executive Editor of the Environmental Law and Policy Journal and chaired the Environmental Law Society. Her education supports a practice that regularly combines Indian law, environmental issues, administrative processes, and complex litigation.
Before joining the firm in 2019, Saunders clerked for Justice Craig Stowers of the Alaska Supreme Court. Her current work includes helping Tribal governments evaluate the effects of PFAS on reservations and litigating Tribal claims in multidistrict proceedings involving PFAS manufacturers. She also represents Tribal clients in broader sovereignty, self-governance, economic development, and environmental matters that require coordinated advocacy across courts, agencies, and governmental decision-making processes.
K. Amanda Saunders brings appellate experience, environmental law training, and a focused Tribal law practice to clients addressing significant governmental and regulatory issues. Her work supports Tribal governments and organizations in protecting sovereign interests, responding to environmental harms, advancing self-determination, and managing disputes that may involve multiple jurisdictions. She combines litigation skills with general counsel experience to help clients evaluate legal risk and pursue practical long-term objectives.
