Derrick Pizarro is a seasoned attorney focused on intellectual property and technology law. He has authored articles and spoken often on complex legal topics. His practice spans representing clients in federal courts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Derrick’s dedication to innovation protection is widely recognized.

Derrick first earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Later, he obtained his Juris Doctor from Baylor University School of Law. This strong technical and legal background enables Derrick to bridge the gap between engineering and law. His dual expertise enhances the solutions he offers to clients.

Derrick is a Texas-licensed attorney authorized to practice in both state and federal courts. He represents clients before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Western, and Eastern Districts of Texas, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Federal Circuit. These admissions highlight his extensive reach and experience across multiple state and federal jurisdictions.

Within the State Bar of Texas, Derrick has held leadership roles for many years. He served as Chair, Chair-Elect, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Council Member for the Intellectual Property Law Section. He also chaired the Trade Secrets and Unfair Competition Committee, showing his commitment to leadership and excellence.

Derrick has engaged in community programs such as the San Antonio Bar Association’s Community Justice Program. He has judged the CITE $100k Student Technology Venture Competition at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He also served on the Advisory Board for the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Biomechanics.

Derrick Pizarro has been involved with the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. He served on its Board of Directors and graduated from its Leadership Lab. His professional and volunteer roles display his dedication to the legal, academic, and business communities.
