David N. Allen is a partner at Brooks Pierce in Charlotte, North Carolina. He practices litigation for a broad range of clients and has spent more than 30 years trying lawsuits in state and federal courts. Allen has empaneled close to 100 juries during his career. His practice includes commercial litigation, product liability defense, mass-tort and class-action defense, medical malpractice defense, and personal injury defense.
Allen earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1980. He also received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in 1977. His legal education and long trial background provide a strong foundation for evaluating complex claims, preparing cases for trial, and advising clients on litigation strategy. This training supports his work in matters requiring careful judgment and courtroom experience.
Allen regularly represents pharmaceutical and medical device companies, manufacturing and chemical companies, local governments, physicians, hospitals, and corporations in complex business litigation. He also represents excess carriers in high-value matters, both as active counsel and monitoring counsel. His experience includes trial work, defense litigation, professional responsibility issues, and disputes involving substantial business, health care, product liability, and insurance concerns.
David N. Allen is a former president of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys and a frequent lecturer on trial practice and professional responsibility. He is vice president of the North Carolina State Bar, an elected State Bar councilor, and a former chair of its Ethics Committee. In 2020, he received the NCADA Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy, reflecting his sustained professionalism, courtroom skill, and service to the legal profession.
