David L. Scher

David L. Scher is a distinguished personal injury attorney and Partner at Block O’Toole & Murphy, widely known for securing some of the largest injury settlements in New York. As a former President of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA), Mr. Scher has built a reputation for excellence in trial advocacy, complex legal analysis, and leadership in construction accident litigation. His work includes securing a record-breaking $65 million settlement in 2024—the largest reported personal injury settlement in New York State history.

Mr. Scher is a graduate of Tufts University and earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He began his career at the New York State Attorney General’s Office and went on to clerk for New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich. He joined Block O’Toole & Murphy in 2003 and became a Partner in 2012.

With decades of experience, Mr. Scher has helped recover hundreds of millions in verdicts and settlements for victims of construction accidents, motor vehicle crashes, wrongful death, and workplace injuries. Notable results include multiple eight-figure settlements, including $15 million for a fatal construction incident and $12 million for a tunnel worker injured in a shaft fall. He has also won precedent-setting appeals that strengthened worker protections under New York’s Labor Law.

Mr. Scher leads the firm’s appellate practice and regularly argues before New York’s highest courts. He is frequently published in the New York Law Journal, lectures statewide, and is a recognized authority in labor law.
