About
David Karl Gross is a partner at Birch Horton Bittner & Cherot and leads the firm’s contingency fee and personal injury section. Gross focuses on complex multi-party civil litigation, including product liability claims, commercial disputes, serious personal injury, large-loss subrogation, and insurance coverage disputes. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants, including individuals, local corporations, insurance companies, and international corporations, giving him experience with competing perspectives in high-stakes disputes.
Gross earned a J.D. from Creighton University School of Law in 1996 and a B.A. from the University of Colorado in 1994. He was admitted to practice in Alaska in 1996 and is also admitted before the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. His education and long litigation background support work involving detailed evidence, complex liability questions, and trial and appellate procedure.
Gross has handled pre-suit dispute resolution, litigation, trials, settlements, and appeals. Representative matters include opioid litigation for the State of Alaska, insurance coverage declaratory judgment actions, serious personal injury claims, air crash cases, and bad faith insurance disputes. The firm reports that he has tried and settled numerous plaintiff matters with more than $60 million in recoveries. He also has obtained dispositive rulings for defense clients before trial.
David Karl Gross is recognized for trial-focused civil litigation and for handling matters that involve substantial financial and personal consequences. Gross has served as an instructor and legal advisor for Anchorage Youth Court and has been involved with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. His practice combines courtroom experience with early case assessment, negotiation, and appellate knowledge, helping clients address serious injury, insurance, product liability, and commercial disputes through each stage of the litigation process.
