Thomas P. Giuffra

Thomas P. Giuffra is a partner at Rheingold Giuffra Ruffo Plotkin & Hellman LLP in New York City. His practice focuses on personal injury, catastrophic injury, medical malpractice, sexual abuse, sex trafficking, and other complex civil claims. Thomas represents people harmed by negligence, malpractice, institutional misconduct, and abuse, and he leads the firm’s Sexual Abuse and Civil Litigation Department. His work includes high-stakes cases involving severe injuries and significant personal losses.

Thomas earned his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1994, where he was named Best Advocate at the Civil Trial Institute, joined Phi Delta Phi, and participated on the Trial Advocacy Team. He previously earned an A.B. from Boston College in 1991 with departmental honors in History and repeated Dean’s List recognition. His academic and advocacy training supported a career centered on trial preparation, courtroom strategy, and complex plaintiff-side litigation.

Thomas has tried major tort and malpractice cases involving lead poisoning, traumatic brain injuries, birth trauma, medical negligence, construction accidents, product liability, premises liability, maritime accidents, and toxic torts. His litigation results include more than 20 verdicts and numerous settlements exceeding $1 million, including a $58 million lead-paint verdict. He has also represented survivors in civil sexual abuse and trafficking matters involving medical professionals, clergy, schools, institutions, and high-profile public figures.

Thomas P. Giuffra is admitted in New York, New Jersey, and Utah, as well as multiple federal courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. His professional recognition includes Advocate status with the American Board of Trial Advocates, fellowship in the International Society of Barristers, and long-running selections to New York Metro Super Lawyers. Since 2024, he has also served as an Associate Justice of the Village of Scarsdale, adding public judicial service to his litigation career.
