About
David Crandall is a partner at Holland & Hart LLP who advises businesses and individuals on wealth planning and tax matters. Since 1987, his practice has focused on estate planning, wealth transfer planning, large trust administration, tax controversy, and business succession planning. He works with clients whose estates exceed $100 million and helps structure sophisticated plans that address tax exposure, family wealth transfers, business ownership, and long-term trust administration across multiple jurisdictions.
David earned a B.S. from Brigham Young University, a J.D. from Cornell Law School, and an LL.M. from the University of Denver. His advanced tax education complements a career that began with income tax work and developed into private client planning. He has also served as an adjunct professor in the University of Denver Graduate Tax Program, bringing an academic perspective to complex questions involving taxation, trusts, entities, and wealth-transfer structures.
David has implemented more than 150 sophisticated wealth transfer and estate plans for clients across the West. His experience includes tax planning and compliance for corporations, tax-exempt entities, limited liability companies, and partnerships, as well as structuring transactions to reduce tax obligations. He also represents taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service at audit and appellate levels, giving his planning work a practical understanding of how tax positions are examined and challenged.
David Crandall has held leadership roles at Holland & Hart, including former Private Client Chair, practice group leader, and Management Committee member. He has received recognition in Chambers High Net Worth, Best Lawyers, and Super Lawyers for private wealth, trusts and estates, tax, and related litigation. His combination of estate planning, tax controversy, and business succession experience helps clients coordinate complex wealth decisions with long-term legal and tax objectives.
