Daniel J. Ratner

Daniel J. Ratner is a senior partner at Levy Ratner, P.C. and one of New York’s leading labor attorneys, with a career dedicated to advancing the rights of working people. His legal experience spans more than 35 years, during which he has represented major unions in both the profit and nonprofit sectors, including SEIU, the Teamsters, and the UAW. Before becoming an attorney, he spent twelve years organizing for 1199SEIU and the UAW.

Ratner earned his B.A. from George Washington University, his M.A. in Economics from New School University, and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. This combination of economic and legal training has provided him with a strong foundation for addressing complex labor issues from both analytical and advocacy perspectives. He is admitted to practice law in the state of New York.

Throughout his distinguished career, Ratner has litigated extensively before the National Labor Relations Board and in federal courts nationwide. He served as part of the AFL-CIO national litigation team that established healthcare bargaining unit rules through landmark NLRB rulemaking and Supreme Court litigation. Ratner also secured the precedent-setting decision granting graduate teaching assistants the right to unionize under the NLRA at New York University, 332 NLRB 1205 (2000).

An accomplished negotiator, Daniel J. Ratner has led high-profile labor agreements, including the master contract between 1199SEIU and the League of Voluntary Hospitals—covering more than 150,000 healthcare workers in over 100 institutions. His long-standing dedication to labor advocacy continues to shape collective bargaining, worker representation, and union rights at both the state and national levels.
