About
Dale R. Cockrell is a civil litigation attorney at Moore, Cockrell, Goicoechea & Johnson, P. C, whose practice includes commercial lawsuits and disputes, insurance matters, and environmental and toxic tort litigation. He has developed a broad trial practice and has tried cases in both state and federal courts. His background before law school included work with oil and gas exploration and geological consulting firms, experience that complements matters involving technical, environmental, and commercial issues. He joined his current Montana practice in 1996 and brings decades of litigation experience to complex civil disputes.
Dale earned his J.D. cum laude from Northwestern School of Law, Lewis & Clark College, and his M.S. in Geology from Oklahoma State University. He earned his B.S. in Geology from Oklahoma State University. His advanced scientific training provides a useful foundation for litigation involving environmental conditions, technical evidence, insurance issues, and other fact-intensive disputes. The combination of geology and legal education supports careful analysis of matters that require both legal strategy and an understanding of specialized or scientific subject matter.
Dale is admitted to practice in Montana, South Dakota, and Colorado. His federal admissions include the US District Courts for the Districts of Montana, South Dakota, and Colorado, the US Courts of Appeals for the Eighth and Ninth Circuits, and the US Supreme Court. His multijurisdictional admissions and courtroom background support representation in civil litigation across state and federal forums, including matters involving commercial liability, insurance coverage, and environmental or toxic tort claims.
Dale R. Cockrell has served on the Board of Directors of the Montana Defense Trial Lawyers and has presented continuing legal education programs on insurance bad faith and environmental matters. He also co-authored the South Dakota chapter of the American Bar Association Property Tax Deskbook for multiple editions. His professional work reflects sustained involvement in litigation, insurance, environmental law, and legal education. He combines trial experience, scientific training, and long-standing civil practice when representing clients in complex disputes requiring detailed factual development and strategic advocacy.
