About
Christopher J. Mutimer is a partner and founding member of Monument Legal in Washington, D.C. His practice focuses on federal and local criminal defense and includes personal injury litigation. Christopher represents clients in federal court and DC Superior Court matters involving white-collar offenses, violent crimes, domestic violence, firearms offenses, drug crimes, DUI, and federal sex offenses. He handles matters from grand jury proceedings and pre-indictment investigations through trial, sentencing, and appeal.
Christopher earned a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America and a B.A., magna cum laude, from American University. His legal education provides a foundation for federal criminal procedure, evidentiary issues, sentencing, and litigation strategy. That training supports a practice involving serious criminal allegations and complex investigations where attorneys must evaluate evidence, negotiate with prosecutors, prepare motions, advise clients on risk, and present cases effectively in court.
Christopher has represented individuals with high-level security clearances and members of the US armed forces. His matters can involve negotiations with the US Attorney’s Office, the DC Office of the Attorney General, and counsel from major law firms. His civil practice includes serious personal injury claims and defense work in civil litigation. Before co-founding Monument Legal in 2024, he spent more than eight years as a partner at another Washington criminal defense firm.
Christopher J. Mutimer holds an AV Preeminent peer-reviewed rating from Martindale-Hubbell. His practice combines federal and local criminal defense with experience in investigations, trials, appeals, and selected civil matters. He represents clients through high-stakes proceedings that require detailed preparation, knowledge of federal and District procedures, and careful communication with prosecutors and opposing counsel. His work is centered on protecting clients’ interests from the earliest investigative stage through resolution, trial, or appellate review.
