About

Chris Carr has served as Georgia’s Attorney General since 2016, dedicated to protecting the lives, livelihoods, and liberties of all Georgians. His leadership is marked by a strong commitment to law enforcement, public safety, and defending the state’s constitutional rights. Re-elected twice, he has built a record of prosecuting violent crime, combating corruption, and preserving Georgia’s election integrity.

A graduate of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business and Lumpkin School of Law (University of Georgia School of Law), Carr began his career at Georgia Pacific and later practiced law with Alston & Bird LLP in Atlanta. Before his appointment as Attorney General, he served as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development under Governor Nathan Deal, where he helped bring more than $14 billion in investments and 84,000 jobs to the state.

Under Carr’s leadership, Georgia has made historic progress in public safety. He established the Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit in 2019, rescuing over 200 children and securing lengthy prison sentences for offenders. Building on that success, he created the Gang Prosecution Unit in 2022, achieving over 100 convictions statewide. He also launched Georgia’s Organized Retail Crime Unit in 2024 to combat large-scale theft networks.

Chris Carr’s commitment to community well-being extends beyond crime prevention. His Statewide Opioid Task Force, uniting over 300 agencies, has been nationally recognized for tackling the opioid crisis through collaboration and recovery efforts. His office has secured over $1 billion in settlements with pharmaceutical companies, directing funds toward treatment, prevention, and recovery programs. Through decisive leadership and a focus on justice, Carr continues to strengthen Georgia’s legal framework, ensuring a safer and more prosperous future for every resident.
