Anne E. Lopez

Anne E. Lopez serves as the Attorney General of Hawaii, appointed in December 2022 by Governor Josh Green. As the state’s top legal officer, she oversees a wide range of legal affairs, from public policy and civil rights enforcement to consumer protection and government accountability. Her five-year term, ending in 2026, is marked by strong leadership and an unwavering dedication to justice and public service across the Hawaiian Islands.

Lopez earned her undergraduate degree from San Jose State University and her J.D. from the University of Hawaii. Her education laid the foundation for a legal career characterized by service, integrity, and innovation.

Before becoming Attorney General, Lopez built an impressive professional record. She began her career as an attorney at Chun Kerr Dodd Beaman & Wong, where she worked from 2004 to 2012, gaining deep experience in corporate and civil litigation. She then served as special assistant to former Hawaii Attorney General David Louie, contributing to major policy and legal initiatives that shaped the state’s justice framework. Most recently, she held the position of CEO and General Counsel for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, where she led legal strategy for one of the largest public health systems in the state.

Since assuming office, Anne E. Lopez has championed key initiatives that reflect her forward-thinking approach. She led a major lawsuit to stop unlawful cuts to scientific research and education programs, launched a digital app and web portal to modernize child support services, and helped secure over $700 million in settlements from pharmaceutical companies. Through these accomplishments, Lopez continues to strengthen Hawaii’s legal system, ensuring transparency, fairness, and protection for all residents.
