Brian R. Pitney

Brian R. Pitney is a shareholder and member of the Board of Directors at Sands Anderson PC in Richmond, Virginia. He advises entrepreneurs, business owners, and companies on business formations, mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, and commercial real estate matters. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience, Brian also serves as general counsel, helping clients understand legal risks, pursue growth opportunities, and make informed decisions that support their long-term business plans.

Brian earned his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. His legal and business education provides a practical foundation for analyzing transactions, structuring agreements, and addressing complex commercial concerns. He is admitted to practice in Virginia and before federal appellate, district, and bankruptcy courts in the Commonwealth.

Brian’s experience includes representing entrepreneurs in business sales and acquisitions, financial institutions in loans and workouts, and individuals and companies in commercial real estate transactions. He has advised automobile dealerships, franchisees, contractors, commercial developers, and transportation and logistics companies. His work also includes entity formation, tax-deferred exchanges, land acquisitions, construction and leasing matters, foreclosures, and administrative proceedings before Virginia and federal agencies.

Brian R. Pitney previously led Sands Anderson’s Business Group for 12 years before his election to the firm’s Board of Directors in 2017.
