Gregory P. Bergethon is a shareholder at Sands Anderson PC who works from the firm’s Virginia Beach and Richmond offices. A business and tax attorney as well as a Certified Public Accountant, he advises regional, national, and international clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, financing, business structuring, and tax planning. Greg combines legal and financial insight to help organizations pursue transactions, manage risk, and develop practical strategies aligned with their commercial goals.
Greg earned his J.D. from William & Mary Law School in 2000 and received a B.S. in Business Administration, cum laude, from the University of Richmond in 1993. Greg has advised clients on significant domestic and cross-border matters. His experience includes strategic planning for a $100 million closely held business transaction, a $150 million international joint venture involving trade and investment in Africa, and private equity and venture capital offerings ranging from $5 million to $100 million. He has also developed international tax and operational structures for nonprofit organizations and major companies, helping clients raise capital, expand internationally, and protect organizational interests.
Gregory P. Bergethon serves as an adjunct professor at Regent University School of Law, where he teaches courses involving nonprofit law, mergers and acquisitions, international transactions, business planning, and taxation. He also lectures for corporations and educational institutions in the United States and abroad. Coastal Virginia Magazine recognized him as a 2026 Top Lawyer in tax law, and Virginia Business has repeatedly named him among its Legal Elite for taxes, estates, and trusts.
