Brett Metcalf

Brett Metcalf is a criminal defense lawyer in Tampa, Florida, who represents people facing charges such as DUI, domestic violence, drug offenses, and gun crimes. A Tampa native, he returned to the area after law school and began his career at the State Attorney’s Office. His experience as a prosecutor gives him insight into how criminal cases are investigated, charged, and tried. Brett earned a B.S.B.A. from the University of Florida in 2006. He then earned a Juris Doctor from Florida State College of Law in 2009. His legal training and experience on both sides of criminal cases shape his approach to reviewing evidence and preparing a defense.

As a prosecutor, Brett handled more than 5,000 cases and tried more than 100 cases to verdict. His work included DUI, domestic violence, drug, gun, and RICO cases. In private practice, he has handled cases involving serious charges and disputed evidence. In one fentanyl trafficking case, a court granted his motion to suppress evidence, and the case was dismissed. He has also obtained not-guilty verdicts in DUI and battery trials. Brett Metcalf has served in several roles with the Hillsborough County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division, including on its board of directors. His listed honors include Super Lawyers Rising Star recognition for 2018 through 2020 and Tampa Magazine’s 2018 Top Lawyer recognition for DUI defense. He also spoke at a continuing legal education program about Veterans Treatment Court.
