Brett J. Trout

Brett J. Trout is a highly experienced Iowa Patent Attorney registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Licensed in Iowa since 1992, he is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Brett began his academic path at Grinnell College, where he earned his B.A. in Chemistry in 1988. He later attended the University of Iowa College of Law, graduating with distinction in 1992. During law school, he served as an editor for the Journal of Corporation Law from 1991 to 1992 and authored early scholarship exploring biotechnology and patent rights.

Brett has written extensively on the intersection of law and technology. His works include law review articles such as “The Ethical Lawyer and the Tao of Technology,” as well as influential commentary on biotechnology patents.

Brett’s professional memberships highlight his leadership in the legal community.
