About
Ben Meroney began his legal career in 1991, and by 1993, he had focused his practice on intellectual property matters. For more than thirty years, he has provided comprehensive representation in patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, e-commerce, and related business counseling. His work spans prosecution, litigation, and transactional matters, providing clients with a comprehensive range of intellectual property services tailored to their business objectives.
Ben earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Orleans and his Master of Science degree from Purdue University. Before entering law, Ben worked as an engineer for South Central Bell and later as a geophysicist for Shell Oil, gaining technical expertise that informs his approach to IP law. In 1991, he graduated cum laude from Loyola Law School, where he combined his scientific background with legal training to prepare for a career at the intersection of law and technology.
Ben’s transactional practice is extensive, encompassing licensing transactions, distributorship agreements, IP due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, software beta test agreements, development contracts, shrink-wrap and click-wrap licenses, branding strategies, and co-branding agreements. He has guided both acquiring and acquired companies through negotiations over intellectual property assets, securing adequate protections and advantageous outcomes for his clients.
In addition to transactional work, Ben advises companies on trade secret protection and employee policies, including confidentiality and noncompete agreements. His guidance helps businesses safeguard proprietary information while minimizing risks. Clients value his ability to simplify complex intellectual property issues and deliver practical, results-oriented strategies.
Before joining IPC, Ben Meroney practiced for nearly twenty years as a partner at Jones, Walker, Waechter, Poitevent, Carrere & Denegre, L.L.P. Today, he continues to serve clients across industries with thoughtful, business-driven solutions to their intellectual property challenges.
