Barbara A. Terzian is Of Counsel at The Gittes Law Group and a former founding partner of the firm. She brings decades of experience in civil rights litigation, discrimination law, and constitutional matters, with a strong record of results in both trial and appellate courts.
Barbara earned her J.D. and later completed both her M.A. and Ph.D. in History at The Ohio State University. Her legal and academic backgrounds inform her deep understanding of constitutional law and civil rights.
Barbara previously served as an attorney with the Ohio Supreme Court, which strengthened her appellate practice. She has litigated a wide range of cases involving employment discrimination, defamation, due process, assault, and academic tenure disputes. She has represented individuals in administrative proceedings and advised clients on severance and contract issues.
Barbara’s litigation victories include a major award for women factory workers who were wrongfully terminated during a strike, and a record-setting judgment for a union member violently attacked during a meeting. She also successfully argued a precedent-setting appellate case extending due process protections to low-income tenants in public housing. Her legal accomplishments have been recognized by the ACLU, the Columbus Urban League, and Best Lawyers in America. She is known for her strategic evaluation of cases and thoughtful trial planning.
In addition to her legal practice, Barbara A. Terzian is an accomplished historian specializing in U.S. legal and women’s history. She has published scholarly articles on Ohio constitutional law and the women’s suffrage movement, and has received a Bicentennial Fellowship for her research. She teaches history courses on American legal development and serves as a pre-law advisor for undergraduates. Barbara combines courtroom experience with academic insight to advocate for justice and teach the next generation of legal minds.
