Jane Ruemmele

Jane Ruemmele is a highly respected attorney with more than three decades of legal experience. She is a partner at Hayes Ruemmele LLC, where she focuses on criminal defense, civil rights, and personal injury. Jane has led over 100 jury trials and argued numerous appeals in both state and federal courts. Her dedication to justice and strong courtroom presence have earned her recognition across Indiana and beyond. She is especially known for defending individuals in wrongful confession cases, helping to overturn serious felony charges.

Jane earned her J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington in 1984. Her legal journey began as a clerk at Segal and Macy, followed by her role as an associate at McClure McClure and Kammen, where she practiced criminal law, employment law, and civil rights litigation. She then served as a public defender with both the Marion County Public Defender Agency and the State Public Defender, focusing on post-conviction relief and appeals. Her appellate work included filing and winning appeals, and she has presented oral arguments before the Court of Appeals.

Jane Ruemmele also worked at Ice Miller LLP, one of Indiana’s largest firms, where she handled real estate and litigation matters. Later, she returned to the Marion County Defender Agency’s major felony division and eventually joined SK Huffer & Associates, gaining experience in insurance defense and federal civil practice.

Jane continues her advocacy as a partner at Hayes Ruemmele LLC, where she brings her deep knowledge of criminal law and appellate procedure to every case. She has been named one of the Top 100 Criminal Defense Trial Lawyers in Indiana by the National Trial Lawyers, a testament to her skill, dedication, and commitment to justice.
