About
Anthony Cotton has built a reputation as a relentless criminal defense attorney, known for taking on some of Wisconsin’s toughest cases. With a practice devoted entirely to defending the accused, he has secured not guilty verdicts in high-stakes trials, including homicide and federal firearm charges. His results show his unmatched dedication.
Anthony began his academic journey with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He then earned his J.D. from Marquette University Law School. As a law student, he served as President of the International Law Society and gained hands-on legal experience through clerkships and fieldwork, including a human rights investigation in Eritrea.
Anthony’s early legal work included clerkships at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance and the Federal Defender’s Office. He played a key role in preparing for United States v. Booker, one of the most impactful criminal cases in U.S. history. These early experiences laid the groundwork for his commitment to constitutional defense.
Anthony has handled a wide range of criminal charges, including drug offenses, weapons charges, sexual assault, and homicide. He has secured dismissals and acquittals even when clients confessed or faced strong evidence. He is especially skilled in getting confessions and evidence suppressed, resulting in dismissed charges across multiple counties.
Anthony’s courtroom success is matched by his leadership in the legal community. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers just one year out of law school and later served as its President. He has also been a board member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is a Life Member.
Anthony has received continuous recognition for his legal skills. Since 2008, he has been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers, first as a “Rising Star” and then as a “Super Lawyer.” In 2010, he was named an “Up and Coming Lawyer” by the Wisconsin Law Journal.
Anthony Cotton works tirelessly for every client. He attends national legal seminars, leads legal education programs, and trains other defense attorneys. His strong work ethic and proven case results make him one of Wisconsin’s most trusted defense attorneys.
