About
Anita C. Marinelli is a principal at Miller Canfield and a key member of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. She focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation, patent and trademark prosecution, and complex cross-border IP strategy. Anita represents clients in both the United States and Canada, offering seamless protection for global IP portfolios.
Anita earned dual Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (magna cum laude) and the University of Windsor School of Law in 2017. She also holds a Bachelor of Science (Honors) from the University of Western Ontario, awarded in 2014.
Anita is uniquely licensed to practice before both the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. She is one of the few U.S.-based attorneys with full licensing to prosecute patents and trademarks in both countries, eliminating the need for separate counsel and streamlining cross-border filings.
Anita’s litigation experience includes appearances before U.S. District Courts across several states, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She also handles litigation phases from pre-suit strategy to trial and appeal.
Anita advises clients in industries such as biotechnology, software, consumer products, and biomedical devices. Her work includes patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions, IP due diligence, e-commerce enforcement, domain name disputes (UDRP), and DMCA takedowns. She also negotiates business agreements related to technology, confidentiality, and development.
Known for her technical insight, strategic thinking, and rare cross-border capabilities, Anita C. Marinelli delivers efficient and comprehensive IP counsel for clients with global business operations. Based in Detroit, she provides a one-stop solution for North American intellectual property protection.
