Andrew D. Sweat

Andrew D. Sweat is a shareholder at Wise Carter in Jackson who has practiced with the firm for more than 30 years, focusing on workers’ compensation and insurance defense. Andy represents employers, insurance carriers, and self-insurers in all aspects of workers’ compensation claims. He also advises self-insurers on regulatory and compliance issues and has represented Self-Insurance Guaranty Associations since their inception, giving him deep experience with the legal framework governing employer-side compensation matters.

Andy earned a B.A. from the University of Mississippi in 1974 and an M.S. from the University of Mississippi in 1977. He later received his J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1984. His education combines undergraduate and graduate study with legal training from the same university, providing a foundation for a long practice involving statutory benefits, insurance obligations, regulatory requirements, and contested workers’ compensation claims.

Andy has defended employers and carriers in significant workers’ compensation disputes and has also served as a defense expert in bad faith actions related to workers’ compensation claims. His reported case experience includes matters decided by Mississippi appellate courts involving employers, health systems, construction companies, and other organizations. He works with clients on claim strategy, litigation, compliance, and the relationship between workers’ compensation obligations and broader insurance or employment concerns.
