Barbara Childs Wallace is Of Counsel at Wise Carter in Jackson and has more than three decades of experience in Labor & Employment law. Barbara advises and represents management in workplace matters and employment litigation. Her career also includes extensive federal public service, including work with the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of Compliance of the U.S. Congress, where she has addressed labor, employment, and civil rights issues in regulatory and adjudicative settings.
Barbara earned a B.A. from Purdue University in 1973 and a J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law in 1977. She later received an LL.M. from the National Law Center at George Washington University in 1979, with highest honors. Her education also included study at Schiller College in Heidelberg and Notre Dame Law School. This advanced training supports a practice centered on complex employment law, regulation, civil rights, and workplace disputes.
Barbara’s work history includes federal judicial clerkships, service in the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Education, and private practice before joining Wise Carter in 1983. She later served on the Department of Education’s Civil Rights Reviewing Authority and on the Board of Directors of the Office of Compliance of the U.S. Congress, including service as chair. These roles add substantial government and policy experience to her management-side employment practice.
Barbara Childs Wallace has been listed for many years in The Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA for labor and employment work and has received Lawyer of the Year recognition in Jackson. She is a former Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and has published on employment law topics.
