About
Andrés López is a North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in Immigration Law, advocating for clients across all areas of U.S. immigration. Drawing from his personal immigrant background, he focuses on preserving family unity, supporting educational and business goals, and ensuring cultural inclusion through strategic legal guidance and courtroom advocacy.
Andrés holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service with a major in International Economics from Georgetown University, earned in 2000. He later received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since 2007. He is admitted to both the Western and Eastern Districts of North Carolina and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
With deep experience in removal defense, Andrés represents individuals in immigration courts across Charlotte, Atlanta, and Stewart Detention Center in Georgia. He has played a critical role in high-impact appellate cases, such as the Matter of A-B-, advocating for asylum seekers facing gender-based violence. His efforts contributed to overturning prior federal decisions limiting asylum protections.
Andrés works extensively with family-based immigration solutions, helping clients with adjustment of status, provisional waivers, U Visas, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. His advocacy led to a precedent-setting victory in Perez Perez v. Cuccinelli, ensuring fair application of immigration laws for minors. He also supports businesses navigating employment-based immigration.
Andrés serves on the AILA Board of Governors (2024–2027), representing nearly 17,000 immigration attorneys globally. He previously held multiple leadership roles within AILA Carolinas and served as liaison to local immigration offices. His commitment extends to community service through his work with the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy and other legal aid organizations.
Andrés López is recognized for maintaining close client relationships and delivering responsive, high-quality representation. His work continues to shape immigration law outcomes while upholding the rights and aspirations of immigrant communities.
