About

Andres J. Caldera is an associate in the Miami office of Assouline & Berlowe whose practice focuses on international litigation and transactions. As an attorney trained in both civil law and common law systems, he advises clients on cross-border disputes and commercial matters that can involve different legal frameworks. His work draws on experience in banking and finance, international business, insurance coverage, bad faith litigation, and transactional issues affecting foreign investors and financial institutions.

Caldera earned a Bachelor of Law from Universidad de Navarra and later earned both a J.D. and an LL.M. in International Law, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law. During his studies, he participated in international arbitration moot court competitions, placed second in a foreign direct investment arbitration competition, served as a research assistant and Dean’s Fellow, and received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Administrative Law.

Caldera began his legal career at a prominent Central American firm in Nicaragua, where he focused on banking and finance and advised foreign investors and financial institutions on Nicaragua’s civil law system and administrative regulations. Before joining Assouline & Berlowe, he spent two years at a Florida civil defense firm representing insurers in complex insurance coverage litigation, bad faith cases, and claims-handling disputes. Those roles provide a comparative perspective for international transactions and litigation strategy.

Andres J. Caldera is admitted to practice in Florida, the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and Nicaragua. His background across civil and common law systems allows him to assess cross-border matters from multiple legal perspectives. By combining international education, banking and finance work, insurance litigation, and transactional experience, he helps clients navigate disputes and business matters that involve foreign parties, differing legal systems, and complex commercial relationships.
