Andrea Lavelle

Andrea Lavelle is a business and tax attorney whose practice includes business entities and transactions, mergers and acquisitions, bonds and securities, new ventures, and renewable energy. Her work also covers federal, state, and local taxation. She previously practiced in the tax group of a large international law firm in San Diego, where she helped advise on the tax aspects of corporate deals, financing arrangements, energy transactions, and real estate investment trusts.

Andrea earned a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Western Washington University in 2012, graduating magna cum laude. She later received her Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2023, also graduating magna cum laude and earning Order of the Coif honors. During law school, she gained experience through a California state income tax clinic and an externship in an international medical device company’s tax planning department.

Andrea’s legal training also included an externship with a local estate planning practice and service as a judicial extern to Judge Cynthia Bashant of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. Before entering the legal profession, she worked as an educator in New Mexico. She taught core high school subjects through nonprofit and school programs serving young people who were out of school or otherwise disadvantaged. Her background spans education, tax planning, estate planning, and federal court experience.

Andrea Lavelle is a member of the State Bar of California and the State Bar of New Mexico. Her pro bono work has included petitions to expunge criminal records and assessments of wrongful conviction claims. She also served on an artificial intelligence working group, helping attorneys and other staff implement AI tools responsibly in legal workflows. These activities complement her business practice with experience in public service and the practical use of technology in legal work.
