About
Amy C. Dachtler is Counsel in Klarquist’s Portland office and an intellectual property litigator. She represents clients in patent, trade secret, trademark, copyright, contract, and other intellectual property disputes. Her practice combines litigation experience with a technical background in chemical engineering and biology. That combination supports work involving complex technologies, scientific evidence, and business disputes where intellectual property rights and specialized technical issues are central to the case.
Dachtler earned a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. She also earned B.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biology from UCLA. Before entering legal practice, she worked on a genome project for a pharmaceutical company in Cambridge, Massachusetts and as a chemical engineer for a technology consulting company. Her scientific and engineering training provides a strong technical foundation for analyzing patents, trade secrets, and other intellectual property issues.
Dachtler has practiced intellectual property litigation at several firms, including Fish & Richardson, Howrey, Morrison & Foerster, and Stoll Berne, before joining Klarquist in 2017. Her current practice areas include patent litigation, patent work, intellectual property counseling, copyright litigation, trademark disputes, trade secrets, and other IP disputes. She works across chemical, electrical and semiconductor, life sciences, and biotechnology technologies, applying legal strategy to matters that require detailed technical understanding.
Amy C. Dachtler is admitted in Oregon and has prior admissions in California and Massachusetts. Her background as a scientist, engineer, and intellectual property litigator allows her to evaluate disputes from both legal and technical perspectives. She helps clients address patent and technology conflicts, protect confidential information and brand rights, and develop litigation positions grounded in the underlying science or engineering. Her practice is particularly suited to complex cases involving specialized technical subject matter.
