Alexandra MacKay

Alexandra MacKay is a member of Stites & Harbison in Nashville, Tennessee, who counsels clients in intellectual property litigation and transactional matters. Alex assists with the selection, adoption, and registration of trademarks, copyright registration, licensing, and enforcement of intellectual property rights. She has practiced before federal and state courts and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, giving her experience with both protection and dispute resolution for valuable brands and creative assets.

Alex earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2000 and a B.Mus. in Music from Vanderbilt University in 1997. Her legal and music education supports a practice that often involves creative works, brands, technology, and commercial rights. She advises clients on licensing of copyrights, trade secrets, trademarks, and other intellectual property, while also addressing related questions involving advertising, privacy and data security, technology, telecommunications, sports, and entertainment.

Alexandra MacKay also serves as chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee and is active with the International Trademark Association, including service on the INTA Bulletin Editorial Board beginning in 2026. She has held leadership and committee roles in bar and community organizations. Her practice combines counseling, transactions, and litigation, helping clients protect intellectual property, structure commercial uses of those rights, and respond to disputes in courts, administrative proceedings, and negotiated settings.
