Alex Joseph Scharff is a San Antonio criminal defense attorney with extensive experience in Texas state and federal courts. He represents clients in misdemeanor, felony, federal criminal, appellate, parole, and post-conviction matters. His practice also includes Texas and federal civil and criminal forfeiture cases. He has litigated across Texas and argued appeals before state and federal appellate courts, bringing substantial trial and appellate experience to serious criminal matters for clients.
Alex earned his B.A. in Political Science, cum laude, from St. Mary’s University in 1988 and his J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1991. During law school, he joined the Order of Barristers and received recognition through the American Inns of Court. He won mock trial competitions in consecutive years and served on the Board of Advocates. His education supports legal analysis and courtroom preparation in cases.
Alex has represented clients in trial and appellate courts across Texas and in federal courts around the country. He has argued before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, several Texas courts of appeals, and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. His work also includes parole matters and habeas corpus proceedings. He uses extensive courtroom experience to assess evidence, preserve legal issues, develop arguments, and prepare cases for trial or appeal.
