Alex J. Brown

Alex J. Brown is a partner at Shapiro Sher and chairs the firm’s insurance law practice. He represents national insurers, producers, and commercial policyholders in complex coverage disputes, business torts, and contractual matters. Clients trust him to resolve high-stakes litigation efficiently in both state and federal courts across the nation.

Mr. Brown earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1999 and is a member of the Order of the Coif. He also holds a B.A. from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, which he received in 1995. He is admitted to practice in Maryland and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Drawing from experience as a former Assistant Attorney General and Senior Counsel to the Maryland Insurance Administration, Mr. Brown offers clients unique insight into regulatory compliance, market conduct exams, and administrative proceedings. His background allows him to blend regulatory acumen with practical litigation strategy.
