Yan Borodanski

Yan Borodanski is an Associate at McCarter & English, LLP, where his practice focuses on bankruptcy, restructuring, and creditors’ rights litigation. He represents creditors, debtors, trustees, and other stakeholders in bankruptcy court and in state court assignments for the benefit of creditors.

Yan also regularly counsels commercial lenders in foreclosure proceedings. His experience includes representing sureties in complex Chapter 11 energy sector cases, giving him valuable insight into high-stakes financial restructurings. He frequently addresses critical issues such as automatic stays, debtor-in-possession financing, and executory contract rights, providing clients with informed, strategic representation.

Yan earned his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 2017 and continued his legal education with an LL.M. in Bankruptcy from St. John’s in 2018. He received his B.A. from Baruch College, Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, in 2013. During law school, Yan gained practical experience as a judicial intern for the Honorable Robert E. Grossman of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York. He is admitted to practice in New York and before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

Fluent in Russian, Yan can serve a diverse client base and bridge communication gaps in complex cases.
