William H. Shaheen

William H. Shaheen, Senior Counsel, has been practicing law in New Hampshire for five decades. He began his career in 1973, working alongside a retired judge in a practice focused on civil litigation and estates, and soon became the City Attorney for Somersworth. In 1977, he was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Hampshire.

Shaheen earned his B.A. from the University of New Hampshire in 1965 and his J.D., graduating second in his class, from the University of Mississippi in 1973. He also served as a U.S. Army Captain from 1965 to 1969. His education and military background shaped the leadership and discipline he has carried throughout his legal career.

Over the years, Shaheen has successfully handled many personal injury and divorce trials, securing substantial awards for his clients. His negotiation skills have also been critical in business and corporate matters, including mergers, acquisitions, and strategic planning. He represents local and national businesses in multimillion-dollar transactions and litigation. Among his most notable cases was his successful representation of the New Hampshire woman who won the $560 million Powerball Lottery in 2018, ensuring her rights and privacy were protected.

In addition to his legal work, William H. Shaheen has served on numerous boards and in leadership positions, including the New Hampshire Heart Association and the New Hampshire District Court Judges Association. He has also chaired several presidential primary campaigns in the state, reflecting his influence in both law and public service.
