Walter M. Mason is a highly accomplished attorney with extensive experience in wrongful death, civil rights, medical malpractice, product liability, and catastrophic injury litigation. He is committed to achieving justice for victims and has a strong track record of securing significant settlements and verdicts for his clients. His advocacy has led to legal reforms, policy changes, and compensation for those harmed by negligence and misconduct.
Walter earned his J.D. from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, graduating fourth in his class. He served as Note and Comment Editor for the Utah Law Review and was recognized with multiple academic awards in Torts, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, and other subjects. His achievements earned him an invitation to the Order of the Coif. During law school, he interned for Justice John A. Pearce of the Utah Supreme Court and competed nationally in moot court. Simultaneously, he obtained an M.B.A. focusing on international business, studying in Tokyo, Japan, and participating in a human rights consortium at the University of Oxford in England.
Walter began his career under the mentorship of renowned civil rights attorney Rocky Anderson, litigating constitutional and civil rights cases in both state and federal courts. His work included securing justice for a woman who died due to inadequate jail healthcare, obtaining compensation for an innocent bystander shot by law enforcement, and successfully challenging restrictive state laws, including Utah’s medical cannabis regulations and unconstitutional surveillance by the NSA.
At DKOW, Walter M. Mason leads the firm’s national opioid litigation, representing 18 of Utah’s 29 counties and contributing to settlements exceeding $62 million. He has successfully litigated cases involving medical malpractice, police misconduct, inmate healthcare, and trucking accidents. He has briefed and argued cases before the Utah Supreme Court, Utah Court of Appeals, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, shaping legal standards on product warnings, judgment interest rights, and child sexual abuse claims.
Walter’s expertise in litigation and advocacy continues to impact victims’ rights and public policy profoundly.
