Walter E. Werner, III

Walter E. Werner III is a founding partner of Cipriani & Werner and a longtime member of the firm’s Board of Directors. Now serving as Of Counsel, he concentrates his practice on workers’ compensation litigation, representing insurance carriers, their insureds, and self-insured organizations in complex and high-exposure matters.

Mr. Werner earned his B.A. from Dickinson College in 1978 and his J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law in 1981. This strong academic foundation supports his decades of experience handling claims, regulatory challenges, and litigation strategies within Pennsylvania’s workers’ compensation system.

Before entering private practice, Mr. Werner served as Assistant Chief Counsel to the State Workers’ Insurance Fund. In that role, he oversaw the Legal Department for the Western Region of Pennsylvania, managing significant caseloads and litigating the majority of the region’s workers’ compensation disputes.

In private practice, Mr. Werner has built a respected career advocating for insurers and employers, with a focus on complex claims, contested cases, and matters that require detailed knowledge of compensation statutes. His experience spans administrative hearings, state court proceedings, and federal matters that involve specialized insurance considerations.

Mr. Werner maintains active involvement in leading professional organizations, including the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and the Workers’ Compensation Sections of the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations. His longstanding participation reflects his commitment to maintaining high standards within the workers’ compensation field.

Walter E. Werner III is admitted to practice before all Pennsylvania state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, enabling him to handle matters at multiple levels of litigation when client needs require broader representation.
