W. Bruce Patterson

W. Bruce Patterson is a seasoned intellectual property attorney and partner at Patterson + Sheridan, where he serves as practice head for the firm’s trademark section. With decades of experience, he specializes in patent preparation and prosecution, trademark and brand protection, and IP transactions across consumer and industrial product sectors.

Mr. Patterson holds a J.D. from South Texas College of Law (1989), an M.S. in Industrial Technology (1982), and a B.S. in Industrial Distribution (1981), both from Texas A&M University. This strong technical and legal education equips him to effectively serve clients in industries such as oil and gas services, hand tools, and advanced technology.

Prior to joining the firm in 1999, Mr. Patterson worked in-house at Cooper Industries. There, he managed global trademark portfolios for major divisions, gaining practical experience collaborating with marketing, R&D, and legal teams. This corporate perspective enhances his strategic counsel to clients developing or refining their intellectual property approach.
