Ms. Therrien earned her Juris Doctor degree in May 1976. Upon graduation, she embraced Justice Cardozo’s call to “answer the people’s cry for justice,” a principle that has guided her throughout her career. In 1992, she formally incorporated her practice, strengthening its foundation and continuing her mission of delivering accessible and principled legal services.
Since 1977, Ms. Therrien has represented a wide array of clients across civil and criminal courts. Her legal work includes establishing non-profit organizations, litigating Supreme Court appeals, and advising small businesses. Her comprehensive approach reflects her versatility and deep understanding of the law. Recently, she has honed her practice around estate planning, property matters, and family-building legal solutions like adoption.
Beyond her practice, Ms. Therrien served for over six years on the State of Alaska Advisory Board for Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Her insights into addiction and recovery have enhanced her judicial perspective, especially during bail and sentencing hearings. She has participated in multiple legal retreats and conferences, fostering her commitment to thoughtful, rehabilitative justice.
With a longstanding office in Fairbanks, Valerie M. Therrien continues to serve the legal needs of her community. She approaches every case with honesty, empathy, and dedication to her clients’ well-being. Through her work, she strives not only to uphold the law but to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those she represents.
