Thomas Viloria

Thomas Viloria is the Managing Partner of Viloria, Oliphant, Oster & Aman L.L.P. and a respected criminal defense lawyer in Reno, Nevada. With more than 30 years of experience, he has represented individuals facing some of the most serious criminal charges. His practice focuses on complex felony cases, including murder, robbery, drug possession and trafficking, reckless driving causing death or injury, sex offenses, DUI, and domestic battery matters. He is a highly experienced trial lawyer with a record of success in more than 75 jury trials and numerous misdemeanor trials.

Thomas E. Viloria earned his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law (SOL), where he received advanced legal training in trial advocacy and criminal law. He completed his B.S. at the University of Nevada, building a strong academic foundation before entering law school. His education prepared him for complex litigation and courtroom practice.

Mr. Viloria is licensed to practice law in Nevada and California. He has been a member of the Nevada State Bar since 1989 and the California State Bar since 1990. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. His education and training provide a strong foundation in criminal law, evidence, and courtroom procedure.

Mr. Viloria previously served in the Major Violator’s Unit at the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted the most serious criminal cases, including murder and death penalty matters. He has been involved in the prosecution and defense of more than 80 murder cases and has served as trial counsel in five death penalty cases. This experience gives him valuable insight into how complex cases are built and tried.

Mr. Viloria uses this knowledge to protect the rights of the accused. He is known for thorough preparation, strategic defense planning, and strong courtroom advocacy. When appropriate, he also develops mitigation evidence to reduce potential sentences and help clients avoid unnecessary jail or prison time.

Thomas Viloria also represents select clients in civil litigation, personal injury, and wrongful death cases. Over his career, he has helped injury victims recover millions of dollars in compensation and has contributed to the legal community through teaching and professional lectures.
